Nuuly Clothing Rental Subscription Review: Renting Clothes from the Company that Owns Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People
I’ve been trying out Nuuly’s clothing rental subscription for a few months now and have been having so much fun doing the try on hauls.
Nuuly’s parent company URBN also owns Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People and more, which is where many of the garments come from.
The clothing rental subscription runs on a monthly basis, with an $88 subscription fee in exchange for 6 garments that you keep for the duration of the month.

Each monthly box comes in a reusable canvas zipped bag with an easy-peel label, and a pre-printed return shipping label inside the box. The clothes are always folded nicely and it’s definitely a pleasant unboxing experience.
Many of the garments I’ve received in the first two boxes came with tags still attached, suggesting that I’m the first to rent them, which is always nice. Everything without tags is clean and has been in good condition (with the exception of a pair of flare pants I got that smelled strongly of patchouli, but fitting for the 70s look I guess).
I relied a lot on reviews to determine sizing and have had a lot of mixed experiences with sizes. Sometimes garments come in multiple colors, and some listings will have reviews if others don’t. I do wish they could share color options in a single listing for the sake of reviews.
Since my girlfriend and I wear the same size, we decided to pick items that she could wear, or we could both share. This box has proven to be a really exciting way to experiment with bold garments you might not necessarily want to own, and also provide a rotation of event-appropriate clothes for things like weddings, holidays, and other events that might need a nicer outfit! We both ended up renting pieces to wear to a wedding that we had, and I’ll be definitely renting more for any events we have coming up after that.
If you enjoy a garment from your monthly box, you can buy it out of the box and pay a discounted retail price for it. Most discounts range from 10-30% off, which I’ve noticed is often consistently still over $50 per garment. I’ve tried pieces I’ve loved, but I probably would only end up buying absolute staple pieces that I know I would continue to wear. I did purchase a pair of high waisted black flare jeans out of the box, and my girlfriend got a plaid blazer that she’s definitely going to wear to death.
All in all, renting clothes has proven to be quite sustainable and gives the thrill of having a small shopping addiction without the regret of spending that much money on seasonal pieces. Nuuly’s subscription price is very fair, given how often I end up wearing the pieces, I do usually give the garments a run for their money.
