For many years I have found myself working on Summer Staff at Pilchuck Glass School, a craft school in Stanwood, Washington. While I don’t frequently make glass art, I do consistently find myself collaborating with other artists at Pilchuck and have created a variety of different pieces over the years. Below are some highlights from a select few projects.
Pilchuck Passport
While on Summer Staff at Pilchuck Glass School in 2019, some of the other staff members and I realized that for many of the students on campus, it was their first summer ever on campus!
H Schenck, Benny Hill and I decided to collaborate and create a passport-like zine that featured some notable destinations on Pilchuck’s campus, including the Pond, the Trojan Horse, Inspiration Point, the Treehouse and some other notable artist-built cabins. We organized an evening event where students could go from destination to destination, collecting stamps that correlated with each destination. The stamps were made in situ using Pilchuck’s Glowforge, and each stamp stayed with each destination.

Glass Protein Scoop
“A glass protein scoop?!” Yes! A glass protein scoop! I dreamed these babies up in my time at Pilchuck Glass School this summer as my utopian dream of how we can improve the fitness industry to be more sustainable. I know every tub still comes with a plastic one, but this is hopefully the first step in the direction away from that.
Are they utilitarian or are they art? Yes.
These were handmade in Austin, TX in an experiment/collaboration with my friend Eli Halbreich, aka Sleeps. The protein scoops are made of borosilicate glass and each scoop holds approximately 2 fluid ounces or 25g of protein powder (depending on the brand).
